The Countess of Dufferin being transported up the Red River on a barge. It arrived in Winnipeg on October 8, 1877. The first locomtive was brought to Winnipeg by the CPR on a barge towed by the river steamer SS Selkirk, along with a caboose and six flat cars. The picture shows the locomotive on its barge moored at the foot of Lombard Street for inspection before being unloaded at St. Boniface.
