JOHN WOODS / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS An Elm tree stump in south Winnipeg Tuesday, October 11, 2016. Dutch elm disease is causing double the trouble for Winnipeg trees and it is going to cost the city over $500,000 to find the cure. More than 6,000 trees were removed in the 2015/16 season, almost double the 3,500 historic average calculated into the city's Dutch Elm Disease management team's budget. It is the highest volume of elm trees to be removed since 1999, says the report.
