BORIS MINKEVICH / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS STANDUP - Roberta Popoff hangs a card in memory of her husband Jake Popoff who died this September. Nov 24, 2016 **FROM PRESS RELEASE -THE MEMORY TREE THAT KEEPS GROWING Palliative Manitoba Helping you live today. Winnipeg, Manitoba: The holiday season is traditionally a time of joy for most. But, for those grieving, it can inspire feelings of loss, loneliness and social isolation. Many grieving people feel out of step with the world around them, yet are reluctant to admit their pain. The Memory Tree provides a tangible way to acknowledge and remember a person who has died. Individuals write their personal message on a beautiful card and hang it on the Memory Tree, displayed prominently at St. Vital Centre during the holiday season. Courtesy of a United Way of Winnipeg Day of Caring in partnership with Manitoba Hydro and St. Vital Centre. This year marks the 24th anniversary for the Palliative Manitoba Memory Tree. In 2015, volunteers were on hand to provide support to 1874 visitors who placed 1776 cards on the tree, of which 380 were childrens cards.
