Winnipeg Free Press Archives Winnipeg WWII Home Front May 20, 1942 Designed for greater comfort, a new style khaki drill tunic soon will be issued to troops in Canada's active army. The new tunic has an open neck instead of the closed collar formerly worn. It has an attached cloth belt to replace the old leather make belt issued in 1915. Two extra side pockets are provided and the tunic will be worn with an issue shirt and black tie. Old style tunics will be turned over to the reserve army. Sgt. Hugh Clarke, assistant forman of the Ordnance Clothing Corps clothing depot, wears the new tunic (left), while Pte. Burns, storeman at the depot wears the old style, (right).
