RUTH BONNEVILLE / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS Photos for story on the 100th anniversary of the massacre is July 31 Photos for story from the Transcona Museum's copy of the Transcona Times newspaper and Transcona Memorial Park cenotaph on the death of former Transcona resident, David Linklater who emigrated from the Ornkey Islands and was a Transcona resident. He was killed in the First World War by a sadistic German commander who torpedoed the British merchant ship, then made the men in lifeboats board the subs deck, smashed their life rafts and confiscated their life jackets, then drove them five miles off, and 200 miles off the English coast, and submerged, drowning everyone of 43 men but three.
