RUTH BONNEVILLE / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS

Health story. Photos of runner Jennifer Walton who runs marathons. Her running has made her arthritis a non-issue even though she has had it since childhood. The angle is that arthritis comes in many forms, and while treatments have improved, it can still be debilitating and is linked to higher incidence of cardiovascular disease. In part this is the result of people with the disease becoming more inactive, often compounding the negative effects of the disease.
With that in mind, exercise--somewhat counter-intuitively--is increasingly seen as an effective way to manage the disease (along with pharmaceutical ones).
