When the mall opened in 1987, it was to great fanfare and hopes it would "be the first step toward (downtown) revitalization and that, with a strong commercial core and residential development, other facilities would soon follow," Now, 30 years later operating with many shuttered storefronts and having dealt with big-name closures (McNally, Holt Renfrew, IMAX),complaints of drug deals happening on the premises and increased retail competition, can Portage Place bounce back?
