Winnipeg Free Press News

Winnipeg Free Press Store
WAYNE GLOWACKI / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS

It’s a fine day to make Ice Castles Wednesday in Winnipeg with the morning temperature of -28C. Steam rises at the Ice Castles site at Parks Canada Place at The Forks Historic Site. The attraction when completed will include ice towers that will reach 10 metres high, slides. arches, rooms, fountains and tunnels. Workers are growing and harvesting icicles at the site. Each icicle will be shaped and hand-placed onto existing ice formations before being sprayed with water. The ice is embedded with colour-changing LED lights set to a musical soundtrack at night. The Utah-based seasonal entertainment company Ice Castles is scheduled to open in late December or early January (with tickets going on sale around the same time). Dec. 27 2017
