MIKE DEAL / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS
In celebration of Manitoba Day, which was on Saturday, May 12, Manitoba’s first mace will be put into service today – the only time in 2018 this will occur. The tradition began last year to commemorate Manitoba Day and this will mark the second time in 134 years the original mace has been used.
Sergeant-at-Arms, Dave Shuttleworth, carries the original mace into the Chamber where it will lay on the table along with the Star Blanket Mace Cushion and the Beaded Mace Runner that were gifted to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba by Indigenous peoples in 2010.
