PHIL HOSSACK / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS - Guests gather around tables at Red River College's Notre Dame Campus's Skilled Trades and Technology Centre Thursday evening. Plant-based proteins, virtual reality wheelchair software, battery-electric vehicles, and natural methods of cleaning wastewater are just a handful of student-led research projects on display at Red River College’s (RRC) third-annual Applied Research & Innovation (ARI) Day, taking place this evening at the Notre Dame Campus.
From the release: “Where else can you see such a diverse variety of innovative ideas all in one evening? Students at RRC are constantly exceeding our expectations when it comes to innovation, collaboration, and hands-on research,” says Ray Hoemsen, Executive Director of Research Partnerships & Innovation (RPI) at Red River College. “This is our third year of hosting ARI Day and this year marks the 15-year anniversary of RPI. The work these students are doing is a significant contribution to our ongoing success not only as an academic institution but as a valued partner to industry. These students will go on to enter the workforce and continue to drive Manitoba’s economy.”

ARI Day highlights the best of student-led research projects at RRC. This year’s event takes a new approach to previous years: the evening reception format, once again emceed by Ace Burpee, will give students the opportunity to network with the College’s partners in business and industry, while showcasing research projects that could earn them cash prizes.

Guests are invited to tour the campus’s research facilities, connect with fellow business leaders, and learn how RRC can support innovation. The formal program will also recognize the work of two faculty members who have successfully applied for a patent for making an article from a curable material.

Red River College acknowledges the support of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), for their significant contribution to ARI Day. - May 30, 2019.
