Portable class rooms have been at Fort Richmond Collegiate for many years.
The province is denying school divisions portable funding, despite overflowing classrooms across the city. For months, the province has been nixing requests for portables in different divisions. Pembina Trails is the latest to receive such a notice. On Thursday (Feb 13) trustees were notified that South Pointe School — which is already 76 students above capacity, won’t be approved for portables next year. The province informed the division it must utilize all other available seats in division schools instead - so kids may be bussed up to an hour away from their designated school.
