MIKE DEAL / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS
A construction worker watches the preparation of the statue being raised during his shift putting stonework onto the church which is still being built.
Construction workers raise a large, gold-leafed statue on to the steeple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints first temple in Manitoba early Tuesday morning in Winnipeg’s Bridgwater neighbourhood.
The iconic symbol of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints stands high on top of most of its 168 temples worldwide. The statue depicts Moroni, an ancient prophet in the Book of Mormon, a book of scripture that is used side by side with the Bible by members of the Church. The gold-leafed statue depicts Moroni blowing a trumpet, which symbolizes the spreading of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.
