LOCAL - Tree canopy

Patricia Gagnon and her husband Ernie stand next to a tree stump on their boulevard in North Kildonan that's been there for over 4 years. The large tree, thought to be a Green Ash tree, was damaged in a 2016 storm and it was promptly removed down to the stump (which remains).

They're frustrated with the replacement timeline for the city tree on their boulevard which they've been told is July 2022 to replace it. She believes the city should increase its focus on tree protection and replacement, and not just tree planting, if it really wants to increase the overall canopy.
