RUTH BONNEVILLE / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS LOCAL - orange shirt day Photo of notes created by students in 4 / 5 classroom at Robert H. Smith School about their thoughts on residential schools. ORANGE SHIRT DAY: Typically, on Sept. 30 - Orange Shirt Day - the older students at Robert H Smith take a neighbourhood walk to the old Assiniboia Indian Residential High School site on Academy, a 20-minute walk from their public school. Due to social distancing worries the students won't walk to the site this year, but instead will discuss the little-known history of the River Heights residential school throughout the day at their school, starting with a virtual assembly. Photos of two teachers at Robert H. Smith School, wearing their orange shirts, and a 4/5 class learning about residential schools. See Maggie's story. Sept 29th,, 2020
