RUTH BONNEVILLE / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS 49.8 - housing for homeless Reporter (Dylan) speaks with three people experiencing housing issues at the 1JustCity program located at West Broadway Community Services (222 Furby St.). Portraits of Mark Olfert who fled a fire at a rooming house and has not found a stable living situation since. Photos taken in sanctuary during interview. This is for a piece that looks at the National Housing Strategy, four years into its existence. Winnipeg has projects like the Colony St. lofts near the WAG that wouldn't exist without the strategy, but non-profits say the program isn't helping their ability to provide housing for the working poor (it's subsidizing the construction of flats that cost $900, but folks in rooming houses can only afford $350-600). This is much more about Manitoba Housing than about outright homelessness, tent cities, etc. Dylan Robertson | Ottawa Bureau Chief Aug 6th, 2021
