RUTH BONNEVILLE / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS Local - VOLUNTEER Column Portrait of Awet Biagaber outside IRCOM Friday. Originally from Eritrea, Awet (he/him), 44, fell into a life of drinking, gangs and crime before turning his life around 8 or 9 years ago. Now he volunteers his time as a mentor to newcomer youth at IRCOM, giving them the kind of guidance he never received when he arrived in Winnipeg in 1991. Volunteer Manitoba recently recognized Awet with the 2021 RBC Bright Future Award. Aaron Epp volunteer column. Sept 10th, 2021
