The City of Winnipeg Archives at the 50 Myrtle Street warehouse location.
A new report calls for the city to move its archives from the 50 Myrtle St. warehouse back to the 380 William Ave building they used to be in before storm damage triggered the move to Myrtle. Archives specialists are welcoming the move as a way to address concerns about the current facility, which some say is allowing these irreplaceable documents to slowly deteriorate due to a lack of temperature and humidity controls. They hope to convince council to speed up the plan, since the city report calls for the $12.7 million needed to renovate the building to be considered in the 2023 budget process, especially since the storms occurred back in 2013. Heritage Winnipeg applauds the plan, saying it would make great use of a heritage building and better protect our records.
