Standup - Sirens for Life campaign.

Emergency service workers in Winnipeg help save more lives as part of this year’s Sirens for Life campaign as they give blood at Canadian Blood Services Thursday.

Photo of Winnipeg Police Chief Danny Smyth giving blood at Canadian Blood Services on William Ave. Thursday.

More info
Canadian Blood Services is asking Winnipeggers to join Canada’s Lifeline by donating blood in support of their local emergency services teams and local recipients like Brittany Gerbrandt.

Brittany was seriously injured in a train collision in 2018. STARS Air Ambulance nursing and paramedic staff who answered the call said Brittany would not have survived if not for the blood product available on board the helicopter that day.

Emergency service workers often see the need for blood firsthand. Just one person who is seriously injured in a car crash could need as many as 50 blood donations to help save their life.

The goal for this year’s Siren’s campaign is to collect 200 units of blood and recruit 50 new donors. The campaign runs from July 1 to August 5, 2019.
