Local - Foster care funds

Derek Nepinak, answers questions from the media during news conference held at Cochrane Saxberg Thursday.

Story: Judge finds Manitoba's misappropriation of benefits for children in care unconstitutional and discriminatory against Indigenous foster children in a seismic legal decision, a Court of Queen’s Bench Judge found that Manitoba's actions and law prohibiting children in care from reclaiming $334 million of misappropriated benefits was unconstitutional and discriminatory against Indigenous foster children, in breach of their Charter rights as Canadian Citizens. This ruling will allow lawsuits to move forward to determine the financial liability of Manitoba.
