MIKE DEAL / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS The Louis Riel Exhibit at the St. Boniface Museum. Louis Riel's moccasins. The vamp of the moccasins is decorated with multi-coloured silk thread embroidery, edged by plaited red and white porcupine quills, as well as two rows of fine horsehair cord. The heels have been patched. Rev. C. McWilliams, acting chaplain for Riel at the execution, is thought to have removed them from the body. He later gave the left moccasin, the tuque and the piece of rope used in the hanging to Father Corrigan. He in turn passed these artifacts to the Historical Society of St. Boniface in 1930. 240206 - Tuesday, February 06, 2024.
