Giving young ball players an opportunity to hone their skills at the plate, instead of having their peers pitch to them, Wawanesa minor baseball is using a coach-pitch machine which lobs the ball in at a safe speed, thus giving the batters a chance to make contact. The players are allowed to get a feel for the swing, and what hitting the ball feels like when making contact. They still run the bases, with the only difference before they move up to the next age group is a coach uses the special machine from the mound to deliver the ball.
