The leaders and volunteers of Brandon’s Youth Activity Centres came before Brandon City Council on Monday to discuss their plans for this summer. There will be three centres this year: YAC East for ages 9-15 at East End Community Centre, YAC West for youth aged 9-15 at West End Community Centre and YAC Junior at Valleyview Community Centre for kids aged 7 and 8. The free drop-in program operates from Monday to Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. from July 5 to August 22 except for Terry Fox Day on Aug. 5. Availability is first-come, first-serve. A video played on the screen on council chambers showed both leaders and attendees from last year’s program talking about what they enjoyed about their time at YAC. More than 5,000 youth participated in last year’s program, the leaders said. More information can be found online at brandon.ca/yac-overview. (Colin Slark/The Brandon Sun)
