Ruth Bonneville / Free Press ENT - transcona museum Environmental portrait of Lucien Houde, who worked and rode on the locomotive in Rotary Heritage Park that is now part of the Transcona Museum. Lucien Houde, worked as a brakeman in 1956 on the CN2747 steam locomotive behind him. He now is one of several retired CNR employees restoring it. Subject: Volunteers working on the CN2747 steam locomotive preservation project at Rotary Heritage Park Story: Community museums in Winnipeg continue to thrive thanks to dedicated volunteers The CN2747 is the first steam locomotive built in western Canada in April 1926. In 2016 the Transcona Museum acquired ownership of the locomotive for $1 from the Midwestern Rail Association. The CN2747 volunteer crew is made up mostly of retired CN employees, who have the knowledge and expertise to do the repair work on the locomotive. One of those volunteers actually worked on the engine when it was in service (it was pulled out of service in 1960). AV Kitching (she/her) Writer | Arts & Life | The Free Press
