Photo description:
A lone tree, silhouetted by the shimmering northern lights on the horizon, stands in a field west of Forrest, MB while a trail of stars circle the north star overhead, early Tuesday morning. This image is a composite of 315 photos that were taken over the course of one hour. The photos were then "stacked" together using a computer program. The image allows us to see a visual representation of the rotation of the earth as the stars move in the night sky. Also visible are the criss-cross lines of artificial satellites as they move through the night sky, and one or two faint shooting stars — part of the Perseid meteor shower that is visible every summer from mid-July to late August. The meteor shower hit is peak between Aug. 11 and Aug. 12. (Matt Goerzen/The Brandon Sun)
