Ruth Bonneville / Free Press ENT - WAG - Motherground Chapter 1: IN CASE OF STORMS In this chapter, Rey has cut, collaged, then re-photographed melting Red River Ice onto full-length images of herself improvising movements with her daughter, Madeleine Coar in a blackened studio-set. Here. The ice/mother/artist seem stone-like and stable while Madeleine sits on her lap, hangs on her shoulders, stands bak and assesses her mother, and buries herself into the facade. Subject: A major new exhibition by Winnipeg-born francophone artist Dominique Rey is opening at the WAG on Friday. Motherground explores ideas of motherhood and art Ѡas well as where the bodies of mothers and children begin and end, and when children start separating from their mothers -- using small and large-scale photographs, photo collage, human-scale sculpture, and video installation.
