LOCAL - learning lodge

Photo of the two school principals and cultural support teacher in the field between the schools where the centre will be built.

Names: Children of the Earth High School prinicipal Jen Donachuk (jeans), Niji Mahkwa principal Reuben Boulette (white beard) and Connie West-Buck, cultural support teacher at Children of the Earth High School.

FRONT AND CENTRE: Children of the Earth is building a "learning lodge" in its backyard to be shared with Niji Mahkwa School. The Winnipeg School Division has grappled with limited space to do land-based learning compared to its counterparts with access to space outside city limits. The lodge will serve as a site for cultural teachings, events and celebrations. It is slated to be made "the traditional way" with willow and a fire-proof tarp. We're looking at land-based learning across the city at-large and how its growing in the public school system.
