RUTH BONNEVILLE / FREE PRESS NTERSECTION - Cafe Lima La Salle Community Centre Photos of Jonatan Laos Zegarra, owner Cafe Lima, making his famous empanadas in a commercial kitchen in La Salle Wednesday. Intersection piece on Jonatan, who started an empanada biz in July 2023. It's a home-based operation selling six varieties of empanadas. Jonatan grew up in Lima, Peru and met his future wife while attending U of M in 2018. He lost his job in the spring of 2023 and decided to go into business for himself, selling Peruvian-flavoured empanadas. He'd love to have a bricks-and-mortar spot of his own one day, as his name implies, but he's been kept so busy baking for farmer's markets & pop-up sales, that he barely has time for that, at this point - he sells out, almost every time out.
