MIKE DEAL / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS Betty Edel, chairwoman of the Winnipeg School Division's board of trustees, who tabled a motion to review suspension data two years ago. The Winnipeg School Division has finally released data to its board members about suspensions. Two years ago, trustees asked administration to review race-based disciplinary data to determine who is being penalized in its schools. In 2018/2019, self-identified Indigenous students represented 8,625, or 26.7%,of all students in WSD. Yet, Indigenous students represent approximately 467 (out of 820 students suspended), or 55%, of suspensions. See Maggie Macintosh story 211207 - Tuesday, December 07, 2021.
