Todd Ross (left) a two-spirited Métis activist for the 2SLGBTQ+ with a focus on advocacy for 2SLGBTQ+ veterans, talks to students during the special event Thursday morning.
As a member of the Canadian Navy, Todd was caught up in the Purge and expelled as ‘not advantageously employable.’
Ahead of Valentine's Day, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights invited teenagers to learn about its newest exhibit on the LGBT Purge in Canada called, Love in a Dangerous Time. They had the opportunity to meet several survivors of the Purge and have intimate conversations about their stories. From the 1950s to the 1990s, 2SLGBTQI+ members of the Canadian military, RCMP and federal civil service were investigated, interrogated and removed from their jobs as mandated by government policy.
