MIKE DEAL / FREE PRESS Olesia Chychkevych arrived in Canada in 2022 from Ukraine escaping the Russian invasion initially landing in Toronto. She eventually made her way to Winnipeg with her 3 sons while her husband remained in Ukraine. Some of the personal belongings she was able to bring with her were a dress her grandmother, Yevhenia, made and her bible, along with her now seven-year-old sour dough starter.
