MIKE DEAL / FREE PRESS Dawn Burling with a photo of her mother, Edna Rasmussen, who suffered broken legs in a fall at Extendicare Tuxedo Villa in June 2024. She claims two health-care aides “cut corners” to save time, and did not use safety restraints while placing Rasmussen in a sit-to-stand lift, resulting in a fall when the elderly woman slipped and staff were unable to hold her up. Burling claims the two employees did not report the incident to a supervisor or co-workers, and left her mother in pain in her bed until staff on the next shift arrived and discovered her. A critical incident review took place afterward. Burling says the two employees faced no repercussions other than a paid “suspension” during the review. Rasmussen died Jan. 17, and her daughter says she holds the two employees accountable. Reporter: Chris Kitching 250227 - Thursday, February 27, 2025.
