A vehicle stops at a temporary stop sign at the corner of First Street and Maryland Avenue on Friday afternoon. The City of Brandon has announced that construction on a new roundabout will begin at this intersection next week. The intersection will be closed all next week during spring break to facilitate underground utility installations as part of the project. Traffic detours will be in place during this time. It's expected that construction on the roundabout will continue throughout the summer months, with completion expected by the fall of 2025. The first phase of construction will be focused on the east side fo the roundabout, until the school summer break begins. The City states that traffic flow through the intersection will be maintained during the first phase, though motorists can expect delays during peak school hours.
