JOHN WOODS / FREE PRESS Wayne Harder magnet fishes at The Forks in Winnipeg Sunday, June 8, 2025. Harder discovered the practice of “fishing” for metal items with a large powerful magnets online. Harder says that in other jurisdictions some really interesting items have been found. In his first summer of magnet fishing Harder has only pulled in scrap metal like nails railway ties and blocks of metal. While dipping his magnet in the Assiniboine today the most valuable thing he pulled in was a quarter from 2022 which he said he would use to pay for his magnet. Today was Free Family Fishing Weekend and while the rain may have kept families away from the river Harder was able to haul in a bucket of scrap metal and had a great time doing it. He plans on fishing other spots on the river. Reporter: standup
