MIKE DEAL / FREE PRESS
Brent Bellamy at Portage Avenue and Main Street the day before the crosswalks are going to become active, allowing people to cross the famous intersection for the first time, legally, since 1979.
We have talked to several longtime proponents of opening Portage and Main as the iconic Winnipeg intersection prepares to welcome pedestrians Friday for the first time in nearly 50 years. Have talked to Glen Murray, Brent Bellamy, Loren Remillard and Adam Dooley. Will lead with Bellamy planning to walk across the intersection in a ‘plebiscite’ T-shirt related to the referendum during Bowman administration.
