Twelve-year-old Lauren Mazer, one of two child actors playing the character of the cowardly lion, winces in mortification as volunteer mom Ashley Mitchel attempts to wrap the girl's hair around her chin in a kind of lion's mane, shortly before the Wednesday evening dress rehearsal for Mecca Productions' all-kids musical, The Magical Land of Oz at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium. The musical opens tonight, with shows on Friday and Saturday. (Matt Goerzen/The Brandon Sun)
