Photo description:
The air compressor building supports a 9,000 horsepower steam turbine. The turbine compresses air so that nitrogen can be delivered into fertilizer production. Hearing protection is mandatory in the building; the turbine is deafeningly loud. The steam-powered device was chosen for its efficiency. The turbine puts to use steam, a regular byproduct of other processes at the Koch plant, which sees constant heating and cooling. (Connor McDowell/The Brandon Sun)
