Bill Turner, a fire captain at the on-site fire station at the Koch Fertilizer plant. Turner has served for 37 years, and was responsible for finding the new fire truck, which was named “The Bill Turner” after him. The team rarely has to respond to emergencies, the most recent going back to 2023 in the case of a grass fire beside a rail line, Turner said. The fire crew and associated equipment at Koch Fertilizer are part of their preparation against potential risks associated with fertilizer production. The plant has its own water hydrant system and water supply to service its firefighting needs, as well as a crew of 80 firefighters led by roughly 10 captains, all staff at the plant.
