Photo description:
27042026 Prairie crocus bloom in a pasture on the north side of the Assiniboine River valley west of Brandon on a sunny and cool Monday. The prairie crocus is a member of the buttercup family and not a true crocus. It is one of the first flowers to bloom each spring. It was adopted as the provincial flower of Manitoba in 1906. The fine hairs that cover the flower help insulate it in cold early spring conditions. (Tim Smith/The Brandon Sun)
