MIKE DEAL / FREE PRESS (From left) Relic Jardine and James Dewar from Churchill High School, and Ruby Robertson from Gordon Bell High School play the cymbals, reading the music taped to the person across from them. Students play their instruments reading their music which is taped onto the back of the student in front of them. More than 600 students from across western and southern Manitoba gathered on the North Lawn of the Manitoba Legislature grounds for a celebration of music education as part of Music Monday. The large group, which includes students from 13 different schools, took part in a massed band and choir performance of Wave of Light, an original piece of music created by acclaimed composer Peter Meechan. Intended for bands and choirs of all experience levels, Wave of Light aims to unite musicians while harnessing the healing power of music to raise funds for CancerCare Manitoba. 260504 - Monday, May 04, 2026.
