More info to story: Sharp says people living in the encampments cut through fencing beneath the property's parking garage and lit fires that caused significant structural damage, leaving part of the garage unstable and requiring demolition and reconstruction. Sharp questions why the burden of removing the encampments and cleaning up the site has fallen on the property owners. He says the City of Winnipeg should be responsible for removing encampments on private property, with police assistance, and for coordinating the cleanup, rather than requiring homeowners to bear the cost and responsibility in addition to repairing the damaged garage. The city has issued a compliance order there. They own the land back down to the river. There’s an encampment there and the city wants the landlords to clean it up, but the landlords are like, ‘What are supposed to do?
