JOE.BRYKSA@FREEPRESS.MB.Ca Local- ( See Matt's brief)- Cuddles a Yorkshire / Chiuaua cross, left, and Isbella a Japanese Chin get to know each other at the Animal Services first ever License-a-thon and Open House on Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m. at 1057 Logan Avenue.Anyone who purchases a new dog licence at the event will receive a coupon for a $10 microchip. A microchip, coupled with a licence, provides the ultimate protection for pet dogs, officials said.Dogs over six months of age are required under city bylaw to have and wear a licence. In most cases, a dog licence helps owners of lost pets avoid impound and boarding fees and a $250 fine.A licence registers a dog and helps to match owners with lost dogs. Only about 10 per cent of the stray dogs that enter the citys animal services system come in wearing a dog licence. -Apr 17, 2010- JOE BRYKSA/WINNIPEG FREE PRESS
