Brian Fowell, volunteer garden co-ordinator for the Hummingbird Community Garden at 26th Street and Maryland Avenue, adds vegetables to one of two big pots of stone soup, created with vegetables from some of the over 400 garden plots that make up the community garden during an event on Thursday evening, based on the European folk tale “Stone Soup.” Members of the community garden offered vegetables from their gardens to add to the soup and many also brought baked goods and other treats for the community meal. Members of the Brandon Ukelele Club also performed during the event. Fowell and his wife Paulette have been organizing the yearly event for close to twenty years. The Hummingbird garden was formed in 2007 and has grown substantially in the years since.
