Lisa Kudelka, the president of the International Peace Garden board of directors, shovels dirt onto the first of 15 Canadian maple trees planted at the garden on Friday afternoon, following a ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the United States. The trees are part of a gift of 250 maple trees given to the United States on July 4 by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney as a special birthday present for the country’s 250th anniversary.
