The ceremony brought together descendants, families, and diverse community leaders to honour a legacy that began when Black railway workers organized North America's first Black union here in 1917. This permanent garden serves as a lasting tribute to the porters, their families, and the courageous labour leaders whose advocacy advanced labour rights, racial equality, and human dignity across Canada.
