MIKE DEAL / FREE PRESS The latest addition to the polar bear family at the Assiniboine Park Conservancy can now be visited at the Zoo’s Leatherdale International Polar Bear Conservation Centre. The yet to be named orphaned polar bear cub arrived at the Zoo from Churchill in August. After consultation with students from the Duke of Marlborough School in Churchill, a shortlist of names have been selected that the public can now vote for by going to the website: www.assiniboinepark.ca/polarbearname. The four names to choose from are: * Duke: Honours Duke of Marlborough School, a source of pride for the students. * Marly: Like Duke, this name honours the school and its students. * Fletcher: In honour of Fletcher Lake, a subarctic lake located in Wapusk National Park. * Mantayo: Represents the Cree name for a large river in Churchill, River of Strangers 261008 - Thursday, October 08, 2026.
