Ruth Bonneville / Free Press ENT - ukrainian museum - Stories of a New Land Olesia Sloboda, Curator of Collections, gives tour of 4 exhibits at Oseredok, Ukrainian museum. Third: Stories of a New Land is a compelling exhibition by renowned artist Peter Shostak at Winnipeg's Oseredok Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre. Showcasing selected oil paintings from his monumental series For Our Children, the collection captures the raw, unromanticized realities of early Ukrainian pioneers settling in Western Canada between 1891 and 1918. Drawing from historical research and his own prairie upbringing, Shostak beautifully preserves a visual history of displacement, grueling physical labor, and community resilience.
