Monica Giesbrecht (Landscape Architect who designed Mellenioum Park) plants a shovel as she and Winnipeg Arts Council Members and volunteers got work started on a Snow Maze behind the downtown library Friday morning. WHERE: Millennium Library and Park (251 Donald Street) WHEN: Friday, January 31st (11:00 AM) WHAT: Preview of snow maze build VISUALS: Snow clearing, creating maze layout, block filling, block stacking This snow maze build joins Winnipeg’s growing list of one-of-a-kind wintery outdoor activities. Billed as ‘SnowMAZEing’, the snow maze event invites Winnipeg citizens – young and old – to celebrate winter and art by creating a community snow maze at the Millennium Library and Park on February 1, 2014. People are encouraged to bring their shovel to enjoy the main event: joining in building a maze out of snow bricks, then warm up inside with hot chocolate, reading and crafts. After a frigid start to the winter, Winnipeggers are sure to embrace the opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities in true winter-city spirit! Presented by the Winnipeg Arts Council, the Winnipeg Public Library Millennium Branch, and the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, SnowMAZEing is a unique event that will give people a chance to enjoy some outside winter fun, while appreciating some of the city’s beautiful public art. Inspired by the public art piece Sentinel of Truth which features quotes from literary works, the snow maze will also feature book inspired art panels. Over the winter holidays families were invited to create drawings inspired by their favourite children’s book or quote. This artwork will be on display in the Library and frozen into the walls of the maze. For more information, visit www.winnipegarts.ca. January 31, 2014 - (Phil Hossack / Winipeg Free Press)
