JOHN JOHNSTON / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS Social Page for April 25th, 2014 Macdonald Youth Services (MYS) Äì Grand Opening of Youth Resource Centre/Shelter Macdonald Youth Services (MYS) held a grand opening of the new Youth Resource Centre/Shelter Program (YRC) at their historic Mayfair home. The centre will serve as a 24-hr short-term emergency shelter for youth 12-17 years of age who need a safe place to stay, someone to listen and help in moving forward in their lives. On a walk-in basis, the YRC also offers referral, advocacy, resources, information and short term basic needs services to youth between 12-21 years of age. The centre is expected to provide a variety of support services to about 1600 youth each year. As a not-for-profit agency, MYS has offered community support programs and placement services since 1929. These services range from foster care programs, group care facilities, to school support programs, life skills and employment training programs, and crisis intervention services including mobile crisis teams. It services more than 7,000 youth annually and offers services in Winnipeg and surrounding communities, The Pas and Thompson.
