LtoR Warrent Officer Kelly Verge  and Col. Ross Ermel lay wreath  at Brookside  Cemetery cerimony -LOCAL - National Day of Honour  Winnipeg,  part of Canada’s National Day of Honour vigil. Announced last March, the Prime Minister of Canada, the Right Honourable Stephen Harper announced  that May 9th, 2014, has been designated by Royal Proclamation as a National Day of Honour. This one-time ceremony, conducted by the Army Reservists from 38 Canadian Brigade Group and supported by local VIPs, will mark the end of Canada’s contribution to the Afghanistan War, one where 158 Canadian soldiers, sailors and airmen lost their lives in battle.National Day of Honour Vigil held at Brookside Cemetery ‘Field of Honour’.There will be a coordinated two minutes of silence across the country (12:30 pm- Winnipeg-time) to remember the fallen comrades during the Canadian 12-year commitment to peace and security in Afghanistan. The ceremony has significant meaning to the army community surrounding the Winnipeg area. Soldiers, past and present, will also pay tribute to the more than 40,000 Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) men and women who served as well as others who contributed.
