Diana Barnowich holds up envelopes which her mom stuffed cash then put envelope inside envelope before mailing the stash to fraudsters. (NOTE: her mom's adress is taped over only leaving the fraudster's adress on the envelopes) Diana's quick actions stopped her 76-year-old mom, who has dementia, from giving away over $14,000 and becoming a victim of a telephone Jamaican lottery scam. The mom had just mailed $2,500 in cash, after previously sending cheques totalling $8,300. The daughter was able to get the envelope containing the cash back from the postal outlet before it was sent and stopped payment on the cheques. The fraudsters had disconnected her mom's phone number through MTS and changed it to a phone number just they had. Diana confronted two different men on the phone and traced one of the people the money was being sent to. There were people with a Jamaican phone number and people in Los Angeles, Pinehill Wyoming and Surrey, B.C. involved. She reported it to the RCMP and Canadian Anti-Fraud Agency.
